Our Training

Curriculum

The Journey Tae Kwon Do teaches varying forms, or poomses, a variety of self-defense moves (80 in total!), and multiple wood/masonry breaking techniques as students progress through the belt ranks. As a USCDKA school, the Journey Tae Kwon Do bases its curriculum on the Forces of Taekwondo textbook produced by the founder of USCDKA Senior Grandmaster Edward B. Sell and current President of the USCDKA, Senior Grandmaster Brenda J. Sell.

Students of The Journey Tae Kwon Do will progress through exercises of advancing intensity as their skills progress. Color belts (non-black belts) will receive instruction from both the instructing masters and from their more advanced-rank peers. All students will receive inclusive, all-encompassing instruction as they progress along their Journey in Tae Kwon Do.

Progressing Through the Ranks

The USCDKA establishes 10 student belt ranks. Each student, or "color belt" rank, is listed below. A student must learn and present a series of requirements before being able to progress to the next rank. A student typically takes about three months to learn and improve their testing requirements. Students are usually able to test for their black belts after three years of training.

Portfolios

All students contribute to their Portfolios throughout their training. While the Portfolio is intended to document a student's progress through their Tae Kwon Do Journey, the Portfolio is also intended to enable a student to create a memorable record of their experiences in training. This portfolio is to be presented to their instructors at all color belt tests and will be presented to USCDKA at a students First Dan Black-belt test.
